“My daughter, Corinne, was diagnosed with only one functioning kidney after developing preeclampsia during the birth of her daughter. Sadly, the condition damaged her remaining kidney, and over the next four years, its function gradually declined. I decided to donate one of my kidneys to her.

While we were in the hospital for the transplant, we met a young man undergoing the same procedure. He happened to be a football fan, and at the time I was managing a football club, so we decided to organise a charity football match. The event raised over £1,500, with all proceeds going to the National Kidney Federation. It became an annual fundraiser, and each year we continued to raise money for the cause.

In 2018, we were devastated to lose our daughter after my donated kidney failed. She passed away at the age of 29. That year, I couldn’t bring myself to continue the fundraising, but the following year we revived the charity football event in her memory and even had a trophy made in her honour.

As the years have passed, many of the original players have grown older and are no longer able to take part. So, my friend and work colleague Dean Lloyd suggested we take on a new challenge, running a 10K in memory of Corinne. For the past two years, he has completed the run dressed as Batman. This year, he asked me to join him, along with another colleague, Niky Webster. I'm currently training with them, and if my knees don’t hold up, I’ll switch to a push bike, but either way, they’ll run alongside me.”
